YOUR GUIDE TO THE TWIN CITIES

Vertex creates new possibilities in medicine. Our team discovers, develops and commercializes innovative therapies so people with serious diseases can lead better lives.
Vertex scientists and our collaborators are working on new medicines to advance the treatment of hepatitis C, cystic fibrosis, epilepsy, rheumatoid arthritis and other life-threatening diseases.
Vertex isn’t a conventional pharmaceutical company. Each and every person here is driven by a passion and the courage to take risks to discover and develop new medicines that may transform the lives of millions. Vertex has ongoing worldwide research programs and sites in the United States, United Kingdom and Canada and employs more than 1800 people.
In May 2011, the FDA approved our first medicine, INCIVEK™ (telaprevir) for the treatment of hepatitis C. Vertex began its research efforts for hepatitis C in 1993, and since its inception, we have invested more than $4 billion to discover and develop new medicines. Beyond hepatitis C, Vertex is also developing ivacaftor (VX-770), a new approach to the treatment of cystic fibrosis, as well as other potential new medicines currently in mid-stage development. Please see full Prescribing Information for INCIVEK including the Medicine Guide, available at www.INCIVEK.com.
We have a two programs internally that help us foster our great science. Our Science and Technology Exchange Program (STEP-OUT) was established in 2010 and allows for our scientists to explore a scientific area outside of the their normal role for three months. The goal is for participants to focus on a specific area of interest, learn something new, develop a new skill and enhance Vertex’s discovery efforts. On a similar note, our Outstanding Research Award is an annual award established in 2009 to recognize individuals who make outstanding and innovative contributions that solve a critical scientific problem.
Most importantly, our focus is on our patients. We are committed to finding ways to help people with serious diseases lead better lives. To that end, we are constantly fostering interaction between our employees and patients to help us learn more about what we can do to improve their quality of life. Through two of our popular all-employee forums, we invite patients and their families to Vertex to speak about their experiences with disease and the ups and downs of treatment. Our most recent visitor was Roe, a 41-year-old woman who was diagnosed with cystic fibrosis (CF) as an infant. Roe recently participated in our Phase 3 ivacaftor (VX-770) trial for CF. During her visit, Roe told her emotional story about what it is like to live with CF and how she never expected she would need to plan for the future.
