Orchard's systems utilize process automation, rules-based decision-making, ICD-9 screening, and robust instrument, billing, EMR, and reference lab interfaces, to improve efficiency, reduce errors, and increase reimbursements. Orchard also offers Microbiology and Orchard Pathology systems to eliminate paper and electronically integrate these departments with the rest of the laboratory.
For lab outreach, Orchard's outreach systems, Webstation or Orchard Copia, provide easy web-based access or EMR integration for remote order entry and results delivery.

In 2003, KLAS, a renowned, independent industry research firm that ranks healthcare IT vendors, began including Orchard Software in its research and reporting, and since then, Orchard Software has consistently maintained the highest overall score of all other LIS vendors in the respective Market Segment Categories.

In early 2005, Orchard was bestowed the Best in KLAS award for 2004 for being #1 vendor in the Community Hospital Clinical and Ancillary Solutions category in the Top 20 Year-end Best in KLAS Awards report 2004.

More recently, as published in the Top 20 Year-end Best In KLAS Awards report 2008, Orchard Software was ranked the #1 LIS vendor in the Community Hospital and Ambulatory Solutions categories. In December 2008, KLAS published their biennial Comprehensive Laboratory Information System Study where ten LIS vendors were evaluated, and Orchard continued to lead the pack.
