In January 1990, International Medical Group®, Inc. (IMG®) opened its doors in Indianapolis, Indiana, as a Managing General Underwriter, marketing and administrative company offering health, life, travel and indemnity insurance to the international community. Its philosophy was to provide agent-friendly products that were simply underwritten and supported by high administrative standards. After nearly 20 years and under the leadership of Joseph Brougher, this philosophy remains intact.

The capabilities of its professional staff coupled with its speed to market response have allowed IMG to provide the exceptional service for which its has become known and to rapidly develop. In 20 years, IMG has developed several in-house, fully owned and operated service divisions - each one focused on a specific service enabling it to encompass all critical areas of insurance, and to ensure seamless integration of services. IMG provides around-the-clock medical management services, trip cancellation programs to help protect travel investments, and stop loss insurance designed to reduce the financial risk for employers who self-fund their employee medical plans. Additionally, IMG maintains an internationally based service center offering sales and marketing support and emergency medical assistance to its European insured members.

In 2009, IMG was named to the Inner City 100 for a third time, a list of the fastest growing inner-city companies in America as recognized by the Initiative for a Competitive Inner City (ICIC) and BusinessWeek SmallBiz magazine. It also achieved ISO 14001:2004 certification for its Environmental Management System. IMG has launched several groundbreaking new products, and signed a historic agreement in Ho Chi Minh City, the first between a U.S. Managing General Underwriter and a Vietnamese insurance company since the U.S. and Vietnam signed a trade agreement in 2001, indicating a significant milestone in the U.S.-Vietnamese relations. Among these accolades, IMG was also recognized as one of the fastest growing companies in Indiana by the Indiana Business Journal in 2001 and in 2003, Joe Brougher was selected as the Ernst and Young Heartland “Financial Division” Entrepreneur of the Year.
