YOUR GUIDE TO THE TWIN CITIES

Community Nurse and Hospice Care (CNHC) is one of the largest providers of home health services in southeastern Massachusetts. Founded in 1916 by a group of concerned area residents and health professionals, CNHC remains a stand-alone, non-profit institution dedicated to rendering comprehensive home care, education and support to residents in the Greater New Bedford and surrounding towns. Services provided to our community include, but are not limited to, skilled nursing, physical and occupational therapy, home health aide services, hospice care, Alzheimer's and dementia care, psychiatric nursing, bereavement support for adults and children and home telemonitoring.
Our agency was formed in 1916 in Fairhaven, Massachusetts with one nurse. The purpose of the organization was to assist new mothers with their new babies at home. In 1920, board meeting minutes detail a vote by board members to buy the nurse a bicycle so that she could more effectively see her patients. Today, our agency employs 176 staff members, has a daily census of 450 patients and provided over 58,000 home care visits to 2,100 patients last year. Our hospice team of 11 staff and 52 volunteers provided care and counseling to 150 patients and their family members. Volunteers provided over 1460 hours of care to patients and their families, equivalent to $35,040 in care. Without question, keeping our patients healthy and at home is critical to what we do.
