John Snow, Inc., and its nonprofit affiliate, JSI Research & Training Institute, Inc., are public health research and consulting firms dedicated to improving the health of individuals and communities throughout the world.
JSI builds local capacity to address critical health problems, collaborating with local partners to assist countries, governments, communities, families, and individuals to develop their skills and identify solutions that meet their public health needs. Through management assistance, research and evaluation, education, and training, JSI works to enable agencies and health professionals to provide appropriate services in an effective and compassionate manner.
JSI has talented and knowledgeable staff in the fields of public health and education, many of whom are known domestically and internationally. In an effort to take advantage of in-house expertise, a team formed to organize professional development opportunities. These frequent activities run from hour-long trainings on practical, work-enhancing skills, such as how to use Wikis and group facilitation skills, to two-day interactive courses on theoretical concepts, including multiple intelligence learning theory, and basics of monitoring and evaluation.
All of this give and take is encouraged and modeled after President Joel Lamstein's own philosophy. Joel serves on several academic and social justice boards, including the (Cambridge-based) Physicians for Human Rights and the Global Health Council, for which he serves as Chair of the Board of Trustees. He is also a frequent contributor to the Huffington Post.
