Pat and Bud Roche opened the first Roche Bros. in 1952 in Roslindale. This first meat and produce store expanded in 1957 to include groceries. From there, the company grew with the opening of stores in Needham and West Roxbury. In 1970, Westwood opened as the first 'department concept' for merchandising, adding a bakery, florist and restaurant to make shopping more enjoyable for customers. The first Sudbury Farms debuted in 1980 in Sudbury. This new and exciting concept featured one of the largest bulk produce departments, a deli kitchen with homemade salads and an amazing selection of prepared foods – a trend that has since swept the supermarket industry.
Now, fifteen Roche Bros. and three Sudbury Farms family owned supermarkets continue to earn respect nationally for innovative ideas, the freshest foods and the highest levels of personal service.
