PFE started in 1986 in San Francisco when our founder, Michael Levy, decided to switch from training dogs to feeding them as pet food entrepreneur. He opened several small stores and met our second owner, Mark Witriol. Mark, until then a customer, told Michael how he could run his company better. Michael responded that if he knew so much, he should do it himself-- and Mark became his partner! Since then, we have grown to 39 stores all within the greater SF Bay Area. All of our stores are within 100 miles of our HQ in San Leandro. This is important because senior management visits stores every weekend and we are committed to being able to do that and still be home for dinner! Over the years we have garnered numerous industry and local awards for Retailer of the Year, Best Pet Food Chain, Best Employee Relations, etc.. We are perhaps the national retail leader in holistic pet nutrition and product safety. We have the most extensive employee education program of any pet retailer and stop at virtually nothing to satisfy customers and improve the lives of pets.
